Abstract
RIBERO, DANIEL; RESTREPO, RAMIRO; PAUCAR, CARLOS and GARCIA, CLAUDIA. DECREASE OF THE TEMPERATURE IN THE SYNTHESIS OF A HIGHLY REFRACTORY CERAMIC MATERIAL (MULLITE) FROM HIDROXIHIDROGELES. Dyna rev.fac.nac.minas [online]. 2007, vol.74, n.153, pp.95-100. ISSN 0012-7353.
Due to the higher temperatures and more severe conditions at which the refractory materials are subjected and to the incidence of those variables on the production costs of the industrial users, there is a tendency toward the consumption of better and more reliable refractory materials, with higher alumina contents; one of these materials is mullite, which it is not produced in Colombia. In this work, the chemical method for the synthesis of mullite was the hydroxyhydrogels route, looking for to improve the intimate contact between the particles of silica and alumina; The cristallinity was evaluated by DRX analysis and SEM, obtaining crystalline mullite to considerably low temperatures ( 1300 ºC) and less times of processing (10h.). The refractoriness of the material was verified by pyrometric cone equivalent (PCE) obtaining a value bigger than cone 37 (> 1820 ºC). Finally, to check the present compounds and stoichiometric relationship 3Al2O32SiO2, a chemical analysis was carried out.
