Abstract
ECHAVARRIA LOPEZ, CÉSAR AUGUSTO; CORREA CARDENO, CARLOS ALEJANDRO and ECHEVERRI GUISAO, CAMILO. DOWEL-TYPE TIMBER JOINTS REINFORCED WITH STEEL NAIL PLATES. Dyna rev.fac.nac.minas [online]. 2010, vol.77, n.164, pp.98-108. ISSN 0012-7353.
In this paper the use of steel nail plates as reinforcement to prevent brittle failures in dowel-type timber joints is studied. A theoretical model based on the method of the complex functions to calculate the stresses in a timber joint is presented. Laboratory tests with non-reinforced and reinforced timber joints show that with the theoretical model it is possible to predict adequately the load-carrying capacity of the joints. The steel nail plates increase the joint load-carrying capacity and consent to reduce the bolt edge distance. It is established experimentally that all reinforced joints behave explicitly more ductile.
Keywords : dowel-type timber joints; steel nail plates; load-carrying capacity.
