Abstract

APERADOR, WILLIAM; AMAYA, CESAR  and  ESPANA, CLAUDIA. CORROSION RESISTANCE OF [TiN/AlTiN]n MULTILAYERS DEPOSITED ONTO AISI 1045 STEEL. Dyna rev.fac.nac.minas [online]. 2011, vol.78, n.165, pp.183-189. ISSN 0012-7353.

In this paper the corrosion resistance improvement of [TiN/AlTiN]n multilayer coatings with bilayers periods of 2, 6, 12 and 24, deposited by magnetron sputtering technique on AISI 1045 steel coating is presented. The electrochemical behavior was studied by Tafel polarization curves and impedance spectroscopy methods (EIS), under 3.5% NaCl + 0.5 M H2SO4 solution. The corrosion resistance increased gradually based of the period increase of the multilayered, finding values of corrosion rate of 18,51 mpy for the substrate without coating and 1x10-6 mpy for the multilayer coatings with 24 bilayers. The electrochemical measurements evidences the positive effect of the period increase of [TiN /AlTiN]n multilayer coatings.

Keywords : multilayer [TiN/AlTiN]n; EIS; rate corrosion; Tafel.
