CABALLERO, PEDRO J. e ARZOLA, NELSON. REVIEW OF CONSTITUTIVE MODELS FOR ARTICULAR CARTILAGE. Dyna rev.fac.nac.minas [online]. 2012, vol.79, n.173, pp.125-134. ISSN 0012-7353.
In this article, a review of several models used to explain the mechanical behavior of the articular cartilage is presented. This review makes an emphasis on the mechanical models because the physical-chemical models are out of scope of the solid behavior analysis explained in this study. Most of the revised models retake the idea proposed by Mow which states that this type of tissues can be modeled as a biphasic material where each phase has got its specific characteristics and the interaction among these phases offers the tissue overall mechanical properties. The approach of a phenomenological model for an articular cartilage is complex due to the nature of the transitory loads answer and bonded physical-chemical phenomena. The future models will have to be oriented to consider, in an integrated way, these characteristics and interactions among them.
