Abstract

ARROYO OSORIO, JOSÉ MANUEL; MENDES DE AGUIAR, MARCELO  and  RODRIGUEZ BARACALDO, RODOLFO. EN DURO EN LA REDUCCIÓN DEL TIEMPO DE FABRICACIÓN DE CAVIDADES PARA MOLDESEFFECT OF HARD MACHINING ON REDUCING THE MANUFACTURING TIME OF MOULD CAVITIES. Dyna rev.fac.nac.minas [online]. 2012, vol.79, n.175, pp.104-110. ISSN 0012-7353.

The high speed machining (HSM) technology has allowed the machining processing of hardened steels. In this paper we compared experimentally the manufacturing time to produce a mould cavity of small dimensions using the conventional process sequence that includes EDM and using a sequence with hard HSM milling strategies for both roughing and finishing. The sequence with hard HSM milling resulted in a reduction of 55% of total manufacturing time compared with the traditional process using EDM. However, it is important to note that for specific applications it should be done an analysis of the appropriate processes sequence for each particular case considering the costs and benefits, because there is no sequence that is best in all situations.

Keywords : hard machining; high speed machining; mould cavities; manufacturing time.
