Abstract

SANDOVAL-VALLEJO, EIMAR; CAMPANA-DIAZ, WILMER  and  CRUZ-ESCOBAR, ALEJANDRO. LIQUEFACTION RESISTANCE OF AGUABLANCA TERRIGENOUS SAND IN SANTIAGO DE CALI. Dyna rev.fac.nac.minas [online]. 2013, vol.80, n.181, pp.126-135. ISSN 0012-7353.

The northeastern of Santiago de Cali contains abundant terrigenous sands deposits. These sands are with low fine content, in a loose state, and with high water table levels, due to its proximity to the banks of the Cauca River. These characteristics, and the high seismicity of the city, make the liquefaction phenomenon an imminent risk in the area. This paper presents the results of an experimental study carried out to evaluate the liquefaction resistance of Aguablanca terrigenous sands in Santiago de Cali. The experimental program included mineralogical characterization, index properties, and undrained cyclic triaxial tests on isotropically consolidated reconstituted samples. A comparison with researches conducted on others silica sands and one calcareous sand is performed. Results showed a very low liquefaction resistance of the Aguablanca sand in comparison with the other sands, when were tested under similar conditions.

Keywords : terrigenous sands; cyclic triaxial tests; liquefaction resistance; relative density.
