Resumen

CORRAL, Alvaro et al. Assessment opportunities for energy efficiency in Ecuadorian road transport. Dyna rev.fac.nac.minas [online]. 2017, vol.84, n.200, pp.309-315. ISSN 0012-7353.  https://doi.org/10.15446/dyna.v84n200.52495.

Transport facilitates both economic and social development across the globe. Therefore, mass transportation has increased over time, and fossil fuels have been used discriminately to fulfill the demand in the transportation sector. Environmental and social factors need to be addressed, along with the demand for energy, in Ecuador. In 2012, the demand was equivalent to 46 million Barrels of Oil Equivalent BOE, 37% of which was consumed by heavy duty vehicles (HDV) and 32% was consumed by light duty vehicles (LDV). This demand, in combination with an outdated and inefficient vehicle fleet and untargeted fuel subsidies, resulted in excessive consumption. The following research has focused on analyzing transport in Ecuador to identify wasteful consumption patterns and resulting opportunities for improving energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
