Abstract

GIRALDO, Juan Pablo et al. Stem cells. Rev Colomb Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2003, vol.54, n.2, pp.87-96. ISSN 0034-7434.

The history of the stem cells already accounts two decades, in which these cells have changed men's horizon in the field of medicine. The acknowledgement of the existence of various types of cellular lines stemming from the blastocysts and peripheral blood of the adult, along with its capacity of reproducing new tissues, inclusive different embryonic layers has permitted us to design new treatments once considered impossible.

Keywords : Human pluripotent stem cell; human embryonic stem cells; human embryonic germ cell; medical ethics; human embryo research; fetal tissue research; fetal tissue transplantation.
