Abstract

BONILLA, Carlos Alberto. Isoflavones in gynecology, non conventional therapy. Rev Colomb Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2004, vol.55, n.3, pp.209-217. ISSN 0034-7434.

Soy and its isoflavone compounds genisteine, daidzeine and ipriflavone, are used today by alternative medicine practitioners for neoplastic disease, osteoporosis, climacteric and cardiovascular promotion and prevention. At the present time medical publications present studies to evaluate the isoflavons pharmacological benefits under scientific method. There is evidence about their interaction effects to steroidal receptors in the human body, acknowledged by entities as U.S. FDA. Nevertheless, there is lack of controlled studies to determinate their real therapeutic impact. Population statistical problems must be first eliminated and the isoflavons must be studied separately.

Keywords : polyphenols; phytoestrogens; isoflavons; genisteine; daidzeine; ipriflavone; SERMs.
