Abstract

Objective: determining the usefulness of ligature of dilated ovarian vein by laparoscope in treating pelvic congestion syndrome. Type of study: non-randomized controlled clinical trial. Institution: Clínica Los Andes, Cali, Colombia. Patients: 70 patients having a diagnosis of pelvic congestion syndrome confirmed by laparoscope. Interventions: ligature of ovarian vein in 28 patients (experimental group) and medical management in 42 patients (control group). Results: an improvement in managing pain related to pelvic congestion syndrome was observed in the experimental group after 6 months in 26 out of the 28 patients cf. 11 out of 42 patients in the control group (3.41 RR; 2.02-5.76 95%CI). Comments: patients undergoing laparoscopic varicocelectomy had a greater probability of pelvic congestion syndrome becoming cured.
