Starting from a literature review, this article discusses applying qualitative research in the sexual and reproductive health area, enhancing the importance of such methodological approach for understanding the behaviour permeating health practices. The article presents epistemological aspects and the main instruments for collecting data; some methods used for analysing qualitative data are also discussed.
