Abstract
MONDRAGON CEDENO, Alba Lucía. The prevalence of causes of infertility in a level 2 hospital in Cali, Colombia from 2002 to 2004. Rev Colomb Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2008, vol.59, n.1, pp.26-30. ISSN 0034-7434.
Objectives: describing the prevalence of the causes of infertility in females using the Profamilia Fertil programme in Cali, Colombia, and their follow-up time. Materials and methods: this was a cross-sectional study. Clinical histories were used for collecting the data. Results: 1,389 females were studied from 2002 to 2004. The most frequently found causative factor was the peritoneal tube (49.4%); 60% of these attended the programme seeking the re-channelling of their tubes due to previous tube occlusion. 63% of the women only consulted once; 19.3% of them returned more than once for a follow-up consultation. Conclusion: the peritoneal tube factor predominated in this institution, being related to tube obstruction following surgical sterilisation.
