This review of the literature tries to establish the actual concepts about the clinical features, the diagnostic problems, the differential diagnosis and treatment of the bipolar disorder in children and adolescents. It shows that the disorder occurs more frequently than what it is usual/y thought, but due to the peculiar and nonspecific clinical characteristics, it is often misdiagnosed and therefore not appropiately treated.
