Abstract

The presence of different psychological-psychopathologic models is posed. Epistemological critique by Henri Wallon, from a dialectic perspective towards a scientific psychology, is considered. From a model of cerebral organization previously described by the author, three substructures are outlined: impulsive, sensory-motor, and symbolic-representational; and two functions: affective and intellectual. They all involve brain substrates, special differentiation of the two hemispheres and their particular forms of interaction with environment. This updated proposal throws some light about the nature of mental activity and its development processes, to facilitate definitions of spectrum and limits of the different approaches in mental clinical practice and interdisciplinary team work.
