Abstract

Patterns of comorbidity were determined among psychiatric outpatients at the Mental Health Unit of Hospital San Juan de Dios, Bogotá, during 1997. A total of 3.028 clinical histories was reviewed; from these, 1.127 were analyzed. Variables incluided age, gender, and psychiatric diagnosis in axis I, II and III. According to the categorical nature of most measurements, multiple correspondence analysis were performed. Results configurated four axis. Axis I women: depressed, anxious, comorbid cardiovascular disease and Organic Mental Syndrome (OMS). Axis I men: psychosis, personality disorder or mental retardation. Axis II women with endocrinologic comorbidity and afecctive disorders. Axis II men with cronological comorbility, SMO and trauma. Axis III men, with substance abuse, personality disorders and trauma or cardiovascular related diagnoses. Axis IV includes anxious patients, personality disorders, gastrointestinal or endocrine troubles, and bipolar, SMO or trauma patients.
