He was born in Bogotá, june 24, 1916. His parents were general Eutimio Sánchez and doña María Luisa Urrea. He graduated from high school at Saint Michel School of Brussels, at a time when well-to-do people travelled to Europe to enter into the word of ideas, arts and letters. He returned to his native town in the 30´s, to stay for good. Prior to his 21st birthday, he had already finished his medical studies and had published his first scientific paper. Among all his colleagues, Professor Sánchez was the most versatile and extreme without intermissions: from summit to abyss and when the luck is cast, when everything seems to have ended, he comes to life again to continue his search for a fragile and ethereal truth. Through the paths of knowledge he went along render very difficult to permeate his thought and his inmense work. Within our specialty, he is the character who read the most, the one who published more books and papers in the 120 years of history of colombian psychiatry. In plain language, he is somebody to whom his heirs, in the affairs of mind, are in debt of a more critical and detailed reading. After a busy and turbulent life, he died in december 3, 1988, surrounded by his books, certainly the way he always wished, close to his family and my father, his physician.
