Abstract

From its origins in California, in the fifties, the concept of psychological autopsy is defined. Understand of circunstances around the death of an individual, along with the study of his or her distinctive personality traits and life condition constitute its aim. Method characteristics and its usefulness in clinical forensic psychiatry, and accidents programs in suicide, homicide and accidents are established. Finally, some results in the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic of Colombia are here presented.
