The intervention of the mental health professionals in the oncol ógica! fiéld goes in parállél with the advances that are taking place in the treatment of oncologicál diseases. We are facing new patients, once their Ufe is prolonged; this creates new necessities in them, their families and the treating team. The 68% of patients with cáncer have characteristic cases of adaptation disorder at some point in the curse of their illness. A 25% to 40% of patients depending on the characteristics of the sample, present a depressive disorder according to DSMIV entena. Finálly, the presence of Délirium can be found in 15% of the general patients, 25% of the élderly and 75% of the patients facing end stage illness .
