Resumen

GOMEZ-RESTREPO, Carlos et al. HOMICIDE AND INJURIES INFLICTED INTENTIONALLY BY A THIRD PARTY. COLOMBIA 1973-1996. rev.colomb.psiquiatr. [online]. 2003, vol.32, n.3, pp.223-236. ISSN 0034-7450.

Objective: To describe the mortality rate for homicide and injuries inflicted intentionally by a third party from 1973 to 1996 taking into account the data from death certificates provided by the National Department of Statistics (DANE). We describe the potentially associated risk factors for homicide in the Colombian population through logistic regression models. Design: Secondary Analysis of death certificates provided by the DANE (1973-1996). Results: In the period studied (1973-1996), we found that the greatest proportion of deaths caused by homicide was present in the group between the ages of 15 to 24 years for both genders. The homicide rates were between 33 and 150 /100.000 for men and 3 to 12 /100.000 for women. Globally these rates were between 18 to 80 / 100.000 for both genders and for all groups of age during the time under study. We used multivariate models to study three years (1985, 1993, 1996). In 1996 we observed a greater risk for the groups: Males OR = 10.3 (CI 95 %: 9.6-10.9), between the ages of 15 to 24 years OR = 97.5 (86.6-109.7), with a marital "other" (divorced, separated or unmarried ) OR = 4.7 (4.0-5.5). Living in urban areas was a protective factor. In the article we show other relevant descriptions and associations.
