OTERO, Andrés; BOHORQUEZ, María Cristina  e  ROSSELLI, Diego. ¿Where is the article?: how to search relevant scientific literature. rev.colomb.psiquiatr. [online]. 2003, vol.32, n.4, pp.391-402. ISSN 0034-7450.

In medicine, knowledge is always changing. Being up to date is a hard task due to the amount of articles that are published every day. Only in the Medline database, 2000 references are included each day. New technologies, such as the Internet, have made it easier to find the best available evidence. Hence, searching for evidence can be fast and encouraging, although, without knowing the basic skills, it can be frustrating. Bibliographic databases are probably the best place to find evidence about a specific topic. There are general databases such as Medline, Embase, and PsychInfo; there are specific databases such as the ones from the scientific societies, and there are those created after the paradigm of evidence based medicine came into vogue, such as the Cochrane Library, UpToDate, or Best Evidence. The aim of this article is to show the readers how to search relevant literature using Medline. We focus on this database because it is the most accessed and the most cited database, but also because it is of free access.

Palavras-chave : Databases; Medline; Embase; evidence base medicine.
