Abstract

GARCIANDIA, José Antonio  and  SAMPER, Jeannette. The Texture of “Togetherness”: Weaving Ideas to Create New Meanings between Patient and Therapist. rev.colomb.psiquiatr. [online]. 2004, vol.33, n.3, pp.263-284. ISSN 0034-7450.

In this article the authors develop some of the important aspects that must be considered in therapy. In their conversation, therapist and consultant bring forth invisible meanings that become visible threads that are woven together building what they describe as an Ethnic System of Meanings. Ethnicity is understood to include gender, race, social class and cultural characteristics that gives meaning to the individual “selfs” and also helps people connect with others. Through their interactions, therapist and consultants generate a relational responsibility, where the “mind” can create new meanings; facilitating the development of individual autonomy and growth.

Keywords : Interview; language; culture; ethical; social responsibility.
