Abstract
GARCIA VALENCIA, Jenny et al. Schizophrenia and neurodevelopment . rev.colomb.psiquiatr. [online]. 2005, vol.34, n.1, pp.63-76. ISSN 0034-7450.
The pathogenic neurodevelopment hypothesis of schizophrenia postulates that this disorder is the product of a primary cerebral alteration resultant of a structural defect that occurs early in life. This defect interacts with events of the central nervous system development and produces some deficiencies that along with environmental precipitants lead to the clinical manifestations of schizophrenia. This hypothesis has had great acceptance and has been the base of multiple studies of molecular genetics in the last years. In this article a revision of the Literature data that support this neurodevelopment hypothesis and data that controvert it showing evidence of neurodegenerative processes within this disorder is made.
