The purpose of this paper is to serve as a useful tool for medical staff providing attention in any type of hospital, clinic or mental ward, particularly in those dealing with patients with severe mental disorders. It is well known that these patients pose a clinical challenge to the general practitioner and that their physical evaluation is sometimes undertaken in a different manner. Because of this it was considered relevant to highlight some of the procedures and to share some of the experiences in the everyday care of these patients, contributing to an integral approach in the complex body-mind context.
