RUEDA-JAIMES, Germán Eduardo et al. Validation of the Eating Behavior Questionnaire in Adolescent School Girls of Bucaramanga, Colombia.. rev.colomb.psiquiatr. [online]. 2005, vol.34, n.3, pp.375-385. ISSN 0034-7450.

Objective: To determine internal consistency and criterion validity of the Eating Behavior Questionnaire (ECA) among adolescents, for the screening of eating disorders (ED). Design: Study of validation with naturalistic sampling. 243 students were selected at random from 1595 eligible from three schools of Bucaramanga, Colombia, and were evaluated with ECA and CIDI independently and blindly. Main measurements: Demographic characteristic, factors analysis, Cronbach’s alpha, sensitivity analysis, specificity and forecast values, Cohen mean kappa test, and ROC curve. Results: The prevalence of the ED in the studied population is 30.0%. For 24 or more points, sensitivity found was 91.8%, specificity 52.4% , the Cohen mean kappa was 0.341, the area under the ROC curve was 0.841. Three domains were found that explain the 72.6% of the variance, the Cronbach’s alpha for the eleven questions of the three domains was 0.636. Conclusions: The ECA is an acceptable alternative for screening groups of adolescents.
