Abstract

MONTOYA VARGAS, Carolina Andrea. On caring: between medicine and philosophy. rev.colomb.psiquiatr. [online]. 2006, vol.35, n.4, pp.570-582. ISSN 0034-7450.

Philosophy seeks the health of the soul. To look after the soul with intense and constant care is what philosopher does; therefore, the true name of philosopher is therapist. In the origin if his knowledge lays the fact that life has to be completed before death; the self has to be fully satisfied before its end. This is the reason that drives us towards meditation. Care of the self is a permanent duty that has to last our entire life, because its essential form is the knowledge of the self. Thus, for both Greeks and Romans, the self means a set of methods whose purpose is life and the exercise of truth.

Keywords : Medicine; philosophy; self care.
