Abstract

Background: The Charles Bonnet syndrome is a clinical entity characterized by the presence of visual hallucinations in geriatric patients with under-diagnosed diminished visual acuity, sometimes wrongly interpreted and treated as a psychiatric disorder. Objective: To update the knowledge about this syndrome. Results: Its etiology, physiopathology, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, course, prognosis and treatment are reviewed.
