Introduction: The huge impact of depression worldwide has led to the development of different educational interventions aimed at the improvement in the recognition and management of this problem at a primary care level. Objectives: To evaluate the accuracy in the depression diagnosis on behalf of primary care physicians and the effect of an educational intervention. Materials and methods: A multicentric study. An educational intervention was adapted to depressive disorders and specifi c needs and oportunities in the context of the provision of primary care in Bogotá, Colombia. Among the evaluation outcomes, a test was made to evaluate the accuracy of depression diagnosis on behalf of primary care physicians. Results: Two months after the intervention, a signifi cant increase in the diagnosis of depression was found in moderate and high risk groups of patients according to a screening test. Conclusion: After the educational intervention, there was an increase in mental disease diagnosis on behalf of general practitioners, particularly in regards to depression.
