Abstract

Objective: To review some of the main aspects of the process of couples therapy. Development: Therapy begins with an initial assessment of the family, its characteristics, family dynamics and the factors that determine its functionality. This will then be used as a guide for approaching the couples therapy. Important topics to consider will be the couple’s conformation, evaluation, course and dynamics. Attached to this work is a brief historical review of a couple’s therapy as a means to examine the essential aspects of intervention. Finally some of the most used intervention processes are described.
