Abstract

GEMPELER, Juanita. Cognitive Remediation Therapy in the Treatment of Anorexia Nervosa. rev.colomb.psiquiatr. [online]. 2010, vol.39, n.4, pp.749-757. ISSN 0034-7450.

Abstract Introduction: In recent years a new approach to the clinical intervention of Anorexia Nervosa, based on neuropsychological concepts, has been developed: Cognitive remediation therapy. Based on hypotheses derived from clinical practice, it explores cognitive flexibility in Anorexia Nervosa within two concepts: Central coherence and set-shifting. The idea is to design a more tailored clinical treatment. Objective: A review of the available literature was performed, in order to structure a presentation of the developments up to date. Method: All the published articles were reviewed; information was obtained from personal communication with Dr. Kate Tchanturia, one of the main authors of Cognitive Remediation Therapy. The review of the articles allowed for the description of the appearance, development, and actual status of this therapy. Conclusion: This paper shows the development of this approach and the available evidence from 2005 to date.

Keywords : Anorexia nervosa; neuropsychology; therapeutics.
