Abstract

RESTREPO, Diana; RODRIGUEZ, Ángela  and  CARDENO, Carlos. Organic Psychosis in a Patient with Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome. rev.colomb.psiquiatr. [online]. 2010, vol.39, n.4, pp.782-800. ISSN 0034-7450.

Introduction: The presence of somatic illness and mental deterioration with psychosis suggests the possibility of organic psychosis. Objective: To discuss the clinical course of a patient with organic psychosis associated with posterior reversible encephalopathy (PRES) due to nephrotic syndrome. Method: Case report. Results: We report a 14-year-old girl with nephrotic syndrome, hypertensive emergency, and convulsive status. Regaining consciousness introduced behavioral changes with psychomotor agitation and psychotic symptoms. Discussion and Conclusions: The suspicion of organic psychosis should guide the clinician to identify potentially correctable causes.

Keywords : Psychosis; brain diseases; PRES; nephrotic syndrome..
