Strengthening From Support Groups. rev.colomb.psiquiatr. [online]. 2024, vol.53, n.4, pp.480-487. Epub 04-Mar-2025. ISSN 0034-7450. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rcp.2022.09.002.
Introduction:
Suicidal behaviour is a mental health problem that reveals an imbalance with life. It is necessary to promote life, the protective factors that nurture mental health; hence, the objective of this study was to recognise positive mental health as a protective factor for the prevention of suicidal behaviour, based on the implementation of support groups as a methodological device.
Methods:
The study was carried out from a qualitative approach using a phenomenological method with the purpose of presenting the perceptions and subjective elaborations of participants in a support group for suicide prevention offered by the Luis Amigó Catholic University, Medellín, Colombia.
Results:
It was found that relational aspects such as family care, emotions, spirituality, and self-care are dimensions of positive mental health that need to be strengthened.
Conclusions:
Positive mental health allows us to achieve daily strategies that favour the understanding of multiple life factors for the containment and treatment of suicidal behaviour.
