Abstract

NARVAEZ QUINTERO, Guillermo Orlando  and  GUERRERO FONSECA, Carlos Arturo. Molecular bases of experimental immunotoxicology of marijuana . rev.fac.med. [online]. 2006, vol.54, n.4, pp.290-300. ISSN 0120-0011.

Marijuana is one of the oldest drugs known by humankind; however, only recently the biochemical mechanism behind the toxicodinamics effects have begun becoming clear. The experimental models, in vitro and in vivo, both in animals and humans, show a clear tendency of immune alteration, pointing out suppression of the Th1-dependent immune response. In these events the involvement of cannabinoid receptors on the surface of immunocites are remarkable.

Keywords : cannabis; marijuana abuse; toxicology; biochemical phenomena; cannabinoids; immune system.
