Abstract

MARTINEZ MARIN, Juan David. Zenker`s diverticulum and acalasia. rev.fac.med. [online]. 2008, vol.56, n.1, pp.65-70. ISSN 0120-0011.

An 88 year old patient has been observed. He is suffering from dysphagia and has a medical history of achalasia, which has had an evolution and has not bee treated for twenty years. He also has oropharynx dysphagia symptoms. In addition to the achalasia, the X-ray and endoscopy exams identified a Zenker diverticulum. Palliative or mitigating therapy was realized using botulinum toxin injection in the lower esophageal sphincter, with symptom improvement. A study is being made concerning the rare co-existence of these two pathologies.

Keywords : diverticulum Zenker; esophageal achalasia; deglutition disorders (dysphagia).
