Bacterial endophthalmitis is an uncommon but serious complication with unfortunate outcomes in terms of morbidity and visual function. In the present review, penetration of antimicrobials to intraocular chambers is shown with the possible clinical implications. Risk factors for exogenous and endogenous endophthalmitis are reviewed as well as the roll for antimicrobials in each condition.
