Background. To do an analysis of the evaluation that is applied to university teachers taking into account the institutional evaluation processes, the national and international policies on education evaluation, the conceptions and tendencies on evaluation prevailing in the departments of nutrition and different therapies of the school of Medicine. Materials and methods. The research was framed within of qualitative model for research and evaluation, of the descriptive and interpretative type. Using the technique called contents analysis fourth categories were established for the analysis of information. Results. The study showed that the evaluation teachers of carried out in the National University of Colombia is framed within the traditional conception, that is, gave importance to the results than to the processes, without facilitating the teachers participation in its design, neither in the decision taking about why and what for the evaluation process are carried out. Conclusions. The evaluation seems to respond to the tendency to be accountable, it is mainly based in measuring how much the teacher has full filled its duties as a professor, and that much developed a curricular program its objectives and results. Taking into account the results of this research, it is advisable a new professor evaluation of teachers giving to it a formative character, in this way the evaluation process will be improved but, the teaching practices even more. Some suggestions and recommendations are given in order to provide a new meaning to the evaluation of university teachers.
