Abstract
QUINONES-ARGOTE, Katherine; ROBAYO-TORRES, Aydee and GARCIA-TORRES, Andrés. Design of a standing device for children with spinal dysraphysm. rev.fac.med. [online]. 2013, vol.61, n.4, pp.423-429. ISSN 0120-0011.
Background. The standing posture is one of the most important factor in the neuromotor system maturations, and is an evolutionary need that phylogenetically makes it possible the differentiation of functions between upper and lower limbs, affecting a further development of these. The possibility of assisted standing posture by ergonomic devices, inexpensives and fonctionals, must be a right for the pediatric population with motor disabilities that cannot to adopt or to maintain this position. Objective. To propose an orthotic device for maintain standing position in pediatric patients with spinal dysraphism. Materials and methods. The design of a standing position device is proposed, based in the individual characteristics of the users. This process was evaluated by experts and then was applied in a study case with a child diagnosed with spinal dysraphism. Results. The prototype designed seems to offer adequate conditions to maintain the standing position and acts over some musculoskeletal conditions of the patient. Conclusion. The assisted standing position has to be promoted trough inexpensive, functional and constantly monitored devices. In this study is proposed a device applied to the user and not a generic device.
