Abstract
SANABRIA, Mauricio; TOBON, Julia; CERTUCHE, Maria Claudia and SANCHEZ-PEDRAZA, Ricardo. Transcultural adaptation of the SDIALOR questionnaire for its use in Colombia. rev.fac.med. [online]. 2015, vol.63, n.1, pp.99-106. ISSN 0120-0011. https://doi.org/10.15446/revfacmed.v63n1.41956.
Background. Before using a health-measuring instrument, it is necessary to know its psychometric properties. Translation and transcultural adaptation of the instrument is a first step before using a scale in a population having different language and cultural characteristics. The SDIALOR scale has been constructed to evaluate satisfaction with health care in dialysis patients. French is the original language of this instrument. Objective. To translate and transculturally adapt for its use in Colombia the French version of the SDIALOR scale. Materials and methods. The process was performed according to the guidelines of the EORTC quality of life group that include initial translation, back-translation and pilot study. Results. An additional option for responding each item -not applicable (NA)- has been included. Considering that literal translation of a group of five items -8, 25, 28, 29 and 35- did not achieved semantic equivalence with the original scale, a modification of the structure of these items have been performed. Completion time of the scale is approximately 30 minutes. Conclusions. A Colombian, Spanish language version of the SDIALOR scale, having semantic equivalence with the original instrument, is available for evaluating its psychometric properties when administered to Colombian patients.
