MORENO-COLLAZOS, Jorge Enrique  e  CRUZ-BERMUDEZ, Harold Fabián. Association between motives and practice of exercise in participants of a program of physical activity at work. rev.fac.med. [online]. 2015, vol.63, n.4, pp.609-615. ISSN 0120-0011.  https://doi.org/10.15446/revfacmed.v63.n4.49238.

Background. Physical activity at work demarcates the responsibility of the discipline of physiotherapy to characterize the motives that lead workers to participate in work fitness programs. Objective. To establish the association between the motivational factors and the level of physical activity practice as part of a work fitness program for employees of a company in the flowers industrial sector located in the municipality of Chía, Cundinamarca, Colombia. Materials and Methods. The sample consisted of 94 employees: 50% were between 20 and 29 years old, 77.7% were female individuals, and they all belonged to the flowers cultivation sector. The employees filled out a motivational tool, self-report on reasons and motivation to practice physical exercise (AMPEF, for its Spanish acronym), and one practical tool, International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) short form, in order to determine the energetic expenditure caused by practicing physical activity (GEPAF, for its Spanish acronym). Results. The main reasons for practicing physical activity were to achieve positive health, with a median of 4.3 points (IQR 3.3 to 5.0), and diseases prevention, with a median of 3.8 (IQR 2.7 to 4.7). The median of the energy expenditure caused by physical activity practice (GEPAF) was 3563.5 Mets-min / week (RIC 2328.0 to 5859.0). The generalized linear regression analysis showed an association between the variables that these instruments include. Conclusion. The approach to motivational aspects and specific needs of the group is necessary from the postulates claiming that physical activity is required in the plans for primary prevention intervention associated with the reasons which lead to the practice of physical activity among workers.
