Abstract

PARRA-ESQUIVEL, Eliana Isabel  and  PENAS-FELIZZOLA, Olga Luz. Assesment of the community program Welfare and Occupational Performance. rev.fac.med. [online]. 2016, vol.64, n.1, pp.41-46. ISSN 0120-0011.  https://doi.org/10.15446/revfacmed.v64n1.49599.

Background. Programs for people with disabilities and their families should be organized and systematized so that their strengths and areas to be improved are identified, which benefits their participants and professionals who work in them. Objective. To assess the Wellness Community and Occupational Performance Program (PBDO for its acronym in Spanish) through the study of a case of a patient with disabilities and his relatives. Materials and Methods. A qualitative descriptive research from the review of a case in which comprehensive care is given to a disabled person and his family was carried out. This study reveals the progress of the intervention that corresponds to elements such as primary caregiver adherence, family members of the disabled person and the establishments of networks in the community. Results. The program effectiveness was measured based on the case studied in terms of adherence to the intervention and the changes evidenced in the person with disabilities and his family at the end of the program. These conditions are given by the occupational performance modifications made by individuals to influence their quality of life. Conclusions. The program shows effectiveness of the intervention to people with disabilities and their families, provided that there the actors involved in the process are committed to the program, there is communication and a successful therapeutic relationship between participants and professionals and the recognition of the different social realities from a "integration in the community" perspective.
