Materials and methods:

A systematic search was conducted in databases on leading research hospitals in the international, regional and local context.

Results:

The leading research hospitals are characterized by organizational changes that grant a significant role to research for their mission by building working teams that include clinicians and researchers of different areas of knowledge.
