Abstract

Introduction:
Ballet is an activity that finds balance between athletics and art. It covers discipline and precision in psychomotor skills, and an exquisite body and aesthetic language whose demand can have an impact on the incidence of injury in those who practice it.
Objective:
To estimate the proportion of injuries and correlated factors in ballet dancers in Bogotá.
Materials and methods:
Observational-descriptive, cross-sectional research, where a survey was applied to a random sample of n=27 pre-professional and professional classical dancers (74% women, aged 12 to 37).
Results:
The average number of injuries per year was 1.5926, with a confidence interval of 95%, and 1.181164 and 2.147491 lambda. No statistical significance for the variables of sex and body mass index (BMI) was found in relation to injuries per year, showing values p=0.26 and p=0.68, respectively. Regarding the most common types of injury tendinopathies and benign muscle injuries (29.62%), as well as strains (19.23%) were found. Recurring anatomical sites of injury in the participants of this study are knees (40%), followed by hip and abdomen (18.51%) and foot and thigh (14.81%).
Conclusions:
Ballet practice increases the risks of musculoskeletal and connective tissue injuries, which explains the importance of further research to promote preventive action for this population.
