LONDONO-ARCILA, Héctor Fabio et al. DRESS syndrome induced by anticonvulsants and fulminant hepatic failure. rev.fac.med. [online]. 2017, vol.65, n.1, pp.165-168. ISSN 0120-0011. https://doi.org/10.15446/revfacmed.v65n1.51919.
The drug rash with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms syndrome (DRESS) is a severe hypersensitive reaction induced by the use of medications. More than 100 drugs associated with this syndrome have been reported and, although most patients have a favorable clinical course, about 10% develop multiple organ failure; some cases may result in the death of the patient. This paper presents a clinical case of DRESS syndrome associated with anticonvulsive therapy that evolved to fulminant hepatic failure. The etiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnostic process and possible treatment of this condition are addressed.
