Resumen

PINZON-FERNANDEZ, María Virginia; ZUNIGA-CERON, Luisa Fernanda  y  SAAVEDRA-TORRES, Jhan Sebastián. Urinary tract infection in children, one of the most prevalent infectious diseases. rev.fac.med. [online]. 2018, vol.66, n.3, pp.393-398. ISSN 0120-0011.  https://doi.org/10.15446/revfacmed.v66n3.59978.

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a frequent pathology during childhood and one of the most common causes of consultation in the pediatric emergency service. Clinical manifestations may be nonspecific in infants and young children; however, in older children, the symptoms are more specific, including fever, flank pain, positive CVA tenderness and signs of bladder infection such as dysuria, frequent urination, vesical tenesmus and incontinence. The definitive confirmatory diagnosis is made by urine culture. Knowledge about risk factors, together with certain considerations of clinical assessment and epidemiology, are essential to guide the preventive strategies of urinary tract infections.

Palabras clave : Urologic Diseases; Urinary Tract Infection; Escherichia coli (MeSH).
