Abstract

RUIZ MOSCARDO, Francisco Javier. Can Cinema Make Us Worse? Stanley Cavell and Moral Perfectionism. Ideas y Valores [online]. 2016, vol.65, n.162, pp.51-70. ISSN 0120-0062.  https://doi.org/10.15446/ideasyvalores.v65n162.48165.

The north American Philosopher S. Cavell has studied the connections between classical cinema from Hollywood and Emersonian moral perfectionism. This article presents both the presuppositions assumed by Cavell throughout his analysis of the cinematographic phenomenon and the moral perfectionism he vindicates, providing a theoretical context which gives them sense and suggests some ways of critical discussion.

Keywords : R. W. Emerson; S. Cavell; cinema; moral perfectionism.
