Abstract

POLO BLANCO, Jorge. Deification of the Market, Liberal Theodicy A Non-Eurocentric Response. Ideas y Valores [online]. 2018, vol.67, n.166, pp.49-74. ISSN 0120-0062.  https://doi.org/10.15446/ideasyvalores.v67n166.56059.

The article examines the assumptions that led economic liberalism (in its purest and most extreme forms) to deify the market and transform it into a totality exempted from any type of criticism. Neoliberalism has turned the market into a locus in which is and ought are reconciled into a perfect unity. Thus, the market becomes the sole, true subject of reasoning: only it thinks and all of its movements are contents of the rational. The comparison of Friedrich von Hayek's work with that of Hegel and Leibniz shows that these authors share the same structure of thought, which ultimately leads us to the sphere of theodicy.

Keywords : F. Hayek; G. W. F. Hegel; G. Leibniz; liberalism; market; neoliberalism..
