Abstract

LO GUERCIO, NICOLÁS. BASIC DISAGREEMENTS AMONG EPISTEMIC PEERS. Ideas y Valores [online]. 2018, vol.67, n.168, pp.81-99. ISSN 0120-0062.  https://doi.org/10.15446/ideasyvalores.v67n168.59433.

The article starts out by introducing the phenomenon of basic disagreements among epistemic peers (that is, disagreements regarding the nature of the evidence or the appropriate method to evaluate it) and arguing that they are relevant and deserve attention. Secondly, it discusses the standard argument in favor of conciliationism. Finally, it holds that the typical reasons for conciliating do not apply to basic disagreements among peers, so that in these cases it is possible to be obstinate.

Keywords : conciliationism; peer disagreement; epistemology.
