Abstract

MURILLO LARA, LUIS ALEJANDRO. BODY REPRESENTATIONS ACTION GUIDANCE AND NON-CONCEPTUAL CONTENT. Ideas y Valores [online]. 2018, vol.67, suppl.4, pp.129-148. ISSN 0120-0062.  https://doi.org/10.15446/ideasyvalores.v67n4supl.73414.

Do we need representations of the body to carry out activities such as crossing the street, riding a bike, or going out a door? The article defends the idea that the execution of these types of actions involves body representations with non-conceptual content. It first discusses the arguments against the notion of representation of the body in action, in order to draw their main consequences, and then proposes a version of the content of body representations involved in everyday actions. Finally, the article discusses a potential objection and carries out a reflection on the relation between conceptual and non-conceptual content.

Keywords : M. Merleau-Ponty; action; non-conceptual mental content; representation of the body.
