The article analyzes the presence of F. Nietzsche's Zarathustra in the Andean region during the 20TH century. Drawing on the theses of A. Rama and M. Hopenhayn, it shows that work's relationship with processes of reconfiguration of subjectivities arising from the dynamics of modernization and secularization. The article also analyzes diverse philosophical readings of the text: culturalist, Marxist, existentialist, and historicist. Unlike authors such as E. Dussel and F. Hinkelammert, we argue that the motifs of the Zarathustra do not entail a counter-modern and anti-enlightened movement, but rather a form of cultural and philosophical management practiced by some enlightened, urban elites.
