Abstract

VASQUEZ BARBA, FERNANDO. CONCEPTUAL METAPHORS IN PANAMANIAN ACADEMIC PHILOSOPHY. Ideas y Valores [online]. 2022, vol.71, n.178, pp.137-160.  Epub Feb 28, 2021. ISSN 0120-0062.  https://doi.org/10.15446/ideasyvalores.v71m78.81898.

The main objective of this work is to examine and determine the consequences of the metaphors contained in the works of Diego Domínguez Caballero, founder of Panamanian academic philosophy. Such metaphors became fundamental for the discursive development of Panamanian philosophy and also for the social sciences in this country, as history and sociology. To this end, we will turn to the theory of conceptual metaphors developed by Lakoff and others as a helpful tool in analyzing the ones used by Domínguez. In the same way, we try to account for the long discursive incidence of these metaphors in the light of the results of psychological research on essentialism.

Keywords : Panamanian philosophy; conceptual metaphors; ideology; essentialism.
