NAVARRO, Sofía et al. DOÑA JUANA VOLCANIC COMPLEX (DJVC), NARIÑO: GEOLOGY AND ERUPTIVE HISTORY. bol.geol. [online]. 2009, vol.31, n.2, pp.109-118. ISSN 0120-0283.

Dona Juana Volcanic Complex is part of the south group of the Colombian active volcanoes. This complex together with the Ánimas and Petacas volcanoes, which are located in the same region, form a volcanic province. The stratigrafy of the DJVC illustrates a wide spectrum of products from lavic to pyroclastics, with debris avalanche and lahar deposits associated. In this study 45 eruptive units were defined as belonging to the DJVC; 7 units to the Ánimas volcano and 3 more units located in the convergence area of the basins that come from these two volcanoes, do not present clear evidence of their source. Remnants of both a caldera and a stratovolcano, besides the summital domes form the DJVC, that demonstrates its wide eruptive history, in which the pyroclastic activity has been dominant, including an important eruption that was recorded during the years 1897-1906. The main composition of the products of this complex is dacitic. Distinction of the products associated to each volcano of this volcanic province is a necessary work in order to know their histories and possible threats that they could represent.
